The Chicago Blackhawks have a long history in the National Hockey League that includes six Stanley Cup world championships. The team has donned a number of different jersey combinations throughout this time that are near and dear to the hearts of Chicago hockey fans.


The Chicago Blackhawks began as an NFL franchise wearing white jerseys with black stripes and a black logo. The black and white colors were reversed the following season, and this jersey combination was worn from 1927 to 1934.

For the 2019 Winter Classic, the Chicago Blackhawks wore replicas of these original black uniform from the 1920s and 1930s.

The Chicago Blackhawks added red to their jerseys for the first time for the 1934-1935 NHL season. The jerseys changed mid-season when the white on the jersey was replaced by a tan color.


For the 1937-1938 NHL season, the Chicago Blackhawks went to a multi-stripe barber pole jersey look, featuring black and red horizontal stripes with white trim. This jersey combination is still a favorite of ours, and it was worn from 1937 through 1955 as the home uniform. A white jersey was added for use as the road jersey or alternate jersey beginning with the 1940-1941 NHL season.


Beginning with the 1955-1956 NHL season, the Chicago Blackhawks switched to the jersey combination that has been worn in some fashion ever since.

The team introduced the red home jersey with black and white stripes on the hem and elbows, and a logo which featured just the Indian Head likeness of Sauk Chief Black Hawk. The white away jersey or alternate jersey is a replica of the home jersey, with the white and red colors interchanged as the base color and color of the stripes.


For the 1995-1996 NHL season, the Chicago Blackhawks introduced a new black alternate jersey. The black alternate jerseys featured the same striped pattern and logo as the white away jerseys, with the black and white colors interchanged as the base color and color of the stripes.

The black alternate jerseys served as the team's third uniforms and a fan favorite from 1996 until 2009. Beginning with the 2009-2010 NHL season, the Blackhawks wore throwback uniforms from the 1930s as their third alternate jerseys. These alternate jerseys were worn for two seasons, and they were designed to resemble the jerseys with the tan stripe worn from 1935-1937.


The Chicago Blackhawks introduced their Reverse Retro alternate jerseys for the 2021 NHL season, which essentially serves as a fourth jersey option for the team.

These uniforms are based on the jerseys the team wore in the 1940-41 season, featuring a black body with red and white trim around the collar, sleeves and waist areas. The jerseys also include a retro circular "Chicago Black Hawks" crest.
